Karan Soni

President
Karan is a Technical Sales & Business Development professional with nearly a decade of experience with a focus on renewable energy and battery energy storage.

With expertise in energy storage, electrical, and mechanical industries across North America, along with a master’s degree in electrical engineering, Karan has a proven track record of driving impactful solutions and fostering strong client partnerships.

Currently, as a Technical Sales Specialist at EVLO Energy Storage,  Karan advises Utilities, Independent Power Producers (IPPs), and Developers on their battery energy storage projects to accelerate the energy transition. Prior to this, Karan has experience in Commercial & Industrial (C&I), Community Solar, and Microgrids sectors with primary focus on the US market. Here, he successfully consulted energy storage client partners on technology selection, design optimization and navigating technical and commercial aspects, leading to the successful closure of multiple megawatts of projects in the US and Canada.
Beyond his professional work, Karan serves as President of Young Professionals in Energy (YPE) Calgary Chapter, where he leads and collaborates with the board members to create initiatives and events that empower young professionals through networking, mentorship, and career development opportunities. Karan is deeply committed to advancing the clean energy transition and inspiring the next generation of energy leaders.

Spencer Loughlin

VP Internal
Spencer is a corporate-commercial lawyer working in the Canadian energy industry.

His experience includes mergers and acquisitions, commodities trading, energy derivatives agreements, carbon offset trading, joint ventures, corporate reorganizations and project development for many of Canada’s leading energy companies. Spencer has also obtained industry experience working in the legal departments at three leading energy production and infrastructure companies: Suncor Energy Inc., Pembina Pipeline Corporation and Inter Pipeline Limited.

Spencer holds a degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the University of British Columbia, and a Law degree from the University of Calgary. Spencer previously served as Corporate Secretary of prior to moving to the Vice President role.

Outside of work, Spencer enjoys mountain biking, kiteboarding, e-foiling and playing racquet sports.

Ahsan Syed

VP External
Ahsan is a carbon and energy decarbonization specialist with 10+ years of experience across a broad range of climate-related verticals.

This includes renewable energy (hydrogen, waste-to-energy, biofuels, biogas, CCUS), climate policy and corporate net zero strategies. His broad experience in the environmental industry was developed
through various consulting roles with Cap-Op Energy (now Radicle BMO), SYSTEMIQ and ERM, in which Ahsan advised clients across the public and private sectors on energy efficiency projects, GHG emissions quantification & reporting, carbon offsets and climate policy compliance, net zero GHG strategy, and climate risk management (TCFD/scenario analysis). Ahsan was most recently with ATCO’s Clean
Energy Team as a senior advisor of strategy, where he led several techno-economic and macroeconomic studies on the export markets for renewable ammonia, hydrogen’s role as a transport fuel, and pathways to reduce the carbon intensity of large-scale hydrogen production.

Prior to that, Ahsan split his time across various clean technology
startups and project developers between Canada, US, UK and Sweden, advising on
commercial strategy, carbon reduction monetization, financial modelling and
fundraising, and grant writing.

Rayleigh Lee

Secretary
Rayleigh is a corporate lawyer at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP where she advises clients on energy industry matters including mergers and acquisitions, asset purchase and sale transactions, joint ventures and project development.

Rayleigh has gained industry experience working in the legal department at Pembina Pipeline Corporation. Rayleigh holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Art History from McGill University and a law degree from University of Alberta.

Outside of work, Rayleigh is an avid baker, painter and an award-winning aerialist.

Colin Thompson

Treasurer
Colin is an Internal Auditor at Enbridge, where he specializes in Project Advisory and Assurance.

He began his career in Risk Advisory with the Big4, nearly completing the Grand-Prix, hitting 3 of 4.

Colin holds a Bachelor of Information Systems from St. Francis Xavier University and a CISA.

Outside of work, Colin skis, hikes, bikes and travels to places with good cheese, natural wine, and meat in tube form.

Adanna Swan

Board Member
Adanna is a marketing and research professional with 10+ years of experience in various industries; including Oil and Gas, Finance and Agriculture.

Adanna’s expertise focuses primarily on consumer insight and marketing process automation. Although she is currently based in Calgary, she has a wealth of experience working throughout the Caribbean.

Adanna holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Studies with a minor in International Relations and a Master of Science degree in Management Studies with a specialization in Marketing – both from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine campus. In 2014, she was the recipient of The Canada-CARICOM Leadership Scholarships Program which offers research opportunities in Canada for students from the Caribbean Community. Her research focused on examining the effect of co-branding on consumers’ attitudes towards imported goods.

Outside of work, Adanna enjoys getting out to the mountains, golfing, and visiting new destinations. Adanna also enjoys reading and boasts of an extensive personal library of business, economics and self-development books
